Swedish Cinnamon Buns vs Cupcakes

Amazing Photography by Bjorn Hermans

Are Swedish cinnamon buns the new bakery trend about to hit the UK?

Currently enjoyed in the United States, will it have the same impact as cupcakes and muffins, and will it be the end to cupcakes and their popularity?

Our thoughts

We at KMC think that there’s space for all gorgeous desserts and pastries.

Cupcakes are such a hit, because they’re so dainty, pretty, tasty, fabulously portioned and has great adaptability to flavours.

Pastries are generally a breakfast food and Swedish cinnamon buns may perhaps become the favourite pastry in town but there’s certainly room for both – the more the merrier we say!

Could it be the alluring taste of cinnamon with a hot cup of coffee/tea that tickles the taste buds- the theory works well, as at KMC,  Apple and Cinnamon (a great autumnal flavour) is our best seller this month!

History of the Swedish Cinnamon bun

Cinnamon buns were originally baked in Sweden.

The 4th October is National Cinnamon Bun day which is today!!!

Do you think we’ll adopt this day if it becomes fashionable, i mean we’ve just celebrated National Cupcake week :)

Roobios tea

Not so much of a new discovery at KMC, but we’ve re-developed our love for it. After months…ok years of being hooked on coffee and tea, we’ve decided to become a little more caffeine free.

Rooibos is a red coloured tea, which is caffeine free. Its native to South Africa and the name Rooibos means Red bush. Its known for it antioxidant properties and we love the fact that other countries have started to use a concentrated roobios to produce expressos, red lattes and cappuccinos- a coffee company that does just that in our local area is Cafe blend.

Historically it was used by Bushmen as a herbal medicine and later by Malay slaves who used it as a tea www.redbushtea.com.

Rooibos is now being used in the baking arena, watch this space for our very own redbush inspired cupcakes!

Cakes for Japan Birmingham fundraiser

A dear friend and her family were living in Japan when the tsunami struck. She contacted us to tell us they were all well, but we felt so helpless. Jenny Welby decided to organise this great bake sale in the hopes of raising money for the Red Cross for Japan and we jumped at the chance to participate.

Putting on our thinking caps we decided that smiles were needed all around and inspired the gorgeous geisha cupcakes.

The Geisha cupcakes went down a storm, as did all the other scrumptious cakes on the day. A fabulous event that bought all people from different paths together to show their united support. Congratulations to Jenny Welby for organising this event and raising a total of £1,155.13- Amazing!

Our Geisha cupcakes are available to order in batches of 12′s. We will be donating 50p from each geisha inspired cupcake to the red cross.

Keep safe and well.

Lots of Geisha hugs,

Kiss Me Cupcakes
